Is Prodigy safe for kids? A parent's guide

Reviewed 2026-10-15 from public pages already cited in this directory. If a minimum age, an ad claim, or a data claim was not on those pages, this note says to check the app's terms.

Prodigy is a math game for grades 1 through 8. The company says the educational content is free. Memberships add goals, reports, and in-game rewards. They do not unlock the curriculum.

Minimum age and account rules

The math membership page covers grades 1–8. Kindergarten is not clearly covered, even though the K–2 filter includes Prodigy for 1st and 2nd grade. Science, on the membership page, covers grades 1–6. A numbered age such as “8 years old” was not the limit we found. Check the app's terms if you need an age in years rather than a grade. Who must create the account was not spelled out on the privacy page we used. Check the app's terms for that rule.

Data and ads

Prodigy’s student privacy page says it is certified by iKeepSafe for COPPA, FERPA, and California student-privacy rules. It says it collects a first name, last initial, rough location, grade, and a password, and that student information is not used for third-party or behavioral ads. Kids cannot share personal messages with other players.

Teaches or gives answers

Children answer math questions to play. It is not a tool that returns the answer to a photographed worksheet. This directory marks it “teaches.”

Parent verdict

One of the clearer privacy notes in this set, for a child in grades 1–8 who will practice inside a game. Do not treat it as a kindergarten product on the strength of the K–2 filter alone.

  • The math questions stay free. A membership is optional.
  • Prices are on the parent pricing page: Core $9.95 a month or $58.95 a year, Plus $14.95 or $88.95, Ultra $19.95 or $118.95.
  • An English game is mentioned on the pricing page. Its grade range was not spelled out, so this directory does not tag Prodigy as reading.

The full directory note is on the tool page. Age cutoffs for more apps are in is my kid old enough? The teaches-versus-answers labels are explained in apps that teach vs. give answers.
