Is IXL safe for kids? A parent's guide
Reviewed 2026-10-15 from public pages already cited in this directory. If a minimum age, an ad claim, or a data claim was not on those pages, this note says to check the app's terms.
IXL is paid skills practice from pre-K through 12th grade. A diagnostic suggests what to work on next. It is not a chatbot and not a camera solver.
Minimum age and account rules
IXL’s privacy policies say children under 13 cannot create an account. Child profiles on a parent account are covered by a children’s privacy policy. The product itself runs from pre-K through 12th grade, so a young child can use it only through that parent account.
Data and ads
The same privacy index says collection of a child’s information is with a parent’s consent and direction. Whether IXL shows ads was not in the pages we read. Check the app's terms.
Teaches or gives answers
Kids answer questions, get feedback, and can watch video lessons. It is practice, not an answer engine for a photocopied worksheet. This directory marks it “teaches.”
Parent verdict
Usable across K–8 if you hold the account and the child has a profile on it. The work is repetition and feedback, which is the point.
- Create the account yourself. Do not let a child under 13 sign up.
- U.S. monthly prices on the family pricing page are $9.95 for one subject, $15.95 for math plus language arts, and $19.95 for the core subjects. Annual prices were not on that page.
- There is a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on that pricing page.
